EYEWASH UPGRADE Haws has launched the new AXION Advan- tage system that can be used to upgrade ineffective or old emergency eyewash and shower units to AXION MSR technol- ogy, which features an inverted water fl ow pattern. The system gives safety decision- makers the ability to enhance their existing emergency equipment to the best-in-class while continuing existing ANSI compliance, says Haws. The Advantage system includes multiple fi tting options to transform exist- ing eyewash and combination eyewash and shower units, as well as supplemental information to aid with ANSI Z358.1-2009 standard compliance. These systems convert 80 per cent of emergency eyewash and shower products. www.hawsco.com. FAUCET CONVERTER Speakman has unveiled the SEF-1801 Eyesaver. This new product combines a fully functional widespread laboratory faucet with an independently operated eyewash. The SEF-1801 features two separate water supplies built within its single post design. This ensures that safe, tepid water will consistently fl ush into the worker's eyes, regardless if hot water is fl owing from the faucet simulta- neously. A simple lift of the easily recognizable activator releases soothing, aerated sprays into the eyes. The Speakman SEF-1801 is ANSI Z358.1 certifi ed, features three-hole installation and solves most eyewash station problems. It is available in an 8-inch spout version. www.speakmancompany.com. PORTABLE SOLUTION Encon has introduced Aquarion Self-Contained Eyewash with a heated option. It is ideal in locations where freezing temperatures are encountered and plumbed drinkable water is not readily available. Freeze protection is accomplished using an insulat- ing blanket and a 120 or 240VAC internal heater that is thermostatically controlled to 30 C. The heater is Class 1, Division 2, Group B, C, D rated and CSA approved. The PVC-lined and Thinsulate-fi lled insulating jacket offers excellent thermal and moisture protection yet provides easy access to cartridges, hoses and eyewash nozzles for verifi cation of ready-to-use status, says the manufacturer. Installation by a single person is simple and easy, and is designed for use on any wall, tight hallway, column or cart. The Aquarion's fl exible fl uid cartridge completely self-evacuates without applied external forces, providing reliable performance when you need it most. Fluid cartridges are available pre-fi lled and sealed with a two-year shelf life. www.enconsafety.com. EYEWASH BOTTLES Dynamic has introduced a new single use eyewash bottle. The sterilized eyewash has a sealed removable cap for a complete sterile single use bottle. Most have a three- year shelf life for low cost and ease of maintenance use. Dynamic has also introduced a Bio Med aerosol eye- wash. Bio Med is sterilized water in a very convenient lightweight aluminum bottle. Bio Med can freeze then thaw and still be good to use. It's ideal for use in remote locations or in toolboxes or vehicles. Simply hold near the eye and spray a soft, light mist to remove dust and dirt. This is a very handy product not only for removing small amounts of dust or dirt from the eye but also for cleansing small cuts, says Dynamic. These products have a natural product number (NPN) issued by Health Canada. www.dsisafety.com. FIRST AID Levitt-Safety has introduced the Diphoterine solution which is designed to treat corrosive splashes in the eyes. Diphoterine is an active scientifi c rinsing method that provides the important mechanical removal of the corrosive but as it is a chelating solu- tion, it has the ability to capture and absorb basic and acidic molecules bringing them back to the safe pH range within sec- onds, says the manufacturer. Diphoterine solution is also designed to be hypertonic, meaning it will create a reverse fl ow out and away from tissue cells thus preventing or dramatically reducing the injury and subsequent long-term disability. Diphoterine solu- tion is Health Canada approved as a Class 2 medical device. www.levitt-safety.com. 30 Canadian Occupational Safety www.cos-mag.com TOOLS OF THE TRADE ADVERTISERS' DIRECTORY COMPANY PAGE WEBSITE Acklands-Grainger Inc. 13 www.acklandsgrainger.com Bradley Corp 27 www.bradleycorp.com/halo Brock University 21 www.brocku.ca/education/ futurestudents/adulted Bruce Power 4 www.brucepower.com Canadian Standards Association 17 www.shop.csa.ca Carswell 12 www.carswell.com Compass Health & Safety Ltd 30 www.compasshealthandsafety.com Desjardins 22 www.desjardins.com Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP 10 +1 416 868 7824 FO Safety Eyewear Inc. 9 www.fosafetyeyewear.ca Guardian 25 www.gesafety.com Honeywell Life Safety 23 http://honeywellsafety.com/culture Industrial Scienti c Corp 19 www.indsci.com Mine Safety Appliances Company 2 www.MSASafety.com O C Tanner 31 www.octanner.ca Predictive Solutions Corporation (PSC) 11 www.predictivesolutions.com University of Fredericton 28 www.UFred.ca/Sandermoen Uvex by Honeywell 32 www.uvex.us/livewire EMERGENCY EYEWASH You can... conduct your own safety perception survey! Recognizing this, Compass elimi- nated the need to employ consultants. We have literally written the book on con- ducting safety perception surveys and have developed web-based survey software to manage the survey data. Flexible. Our survey application contains over 160 survey statements that can be used to build your survey. Alternatively, your survey can contain company specific statements. Build a survey that is specific to your company or build one that is specific to your industry. Revealing. The survey application provides a host of reports that will reveal op- portunities for improvement. Comments are solicited on a question by question basis to help validate employee scores. Safety perception surveys reveal unfiltered beliefs and perceptions of employees. World class companies and safety leaders advocate their use and consider them to be essential tools to the continuous improvement process. Compass (3970).indd 1 12-09-28 3:49 PM
