November 2013 29 TOOLS OF THE TRADE RESPIRATORY PROTECTION QUICK LATCH RESPIRATOR 3M has introduced the 6500 Quick Latch Rugged Comfort Reusable Respirator. The 6500 series deliv- ers comfort, durability and stability with a fi rm, lightly textured silicone face seal and strong body construction. The quick latch drop-down mecha- nism allows for an easy on and off as workers move in and out of contaminated areas. They do not need to remove their hard hats or face shields when low- ering or raising the respirator. It offers optimum fi t and comfort with a head cradle that is adjustable to three sizes. The low-profi le design allows for simplifi ed cleaning and maintenance with fewer parts and crevices. The advanced half facepiece design offers a wide fi eld of view. The product is compatible with weld- ing/grinding shields, says 3M. The cool fl ow valve provides enhanced comfort by reducing heat and moisture and a unique valve design makes breathing easier. The silicone face seal provides comfort and stability with a soft but fi rm face seal. The product life is extended due to resilient silicone material. The respirator keeps its shape in high-heat environments. The valve cover design directs exhaled breath and moisture downward and has an easy positive pres- sure seal check, says 3M. www.3m.com. BLASTING HELMET The new Allegro Nova 3 Blasting Helmet respira- tor combines protection technology with advanced comfort and functionality. Surpassing even the most rigorous industry standards, the product is designed to optimize safety and productivity as well as to minimize worker downtime, says the manufacturer. The Nova 3 is designed and engineered to distrib- ute the helmet's weight evenly across the head and shoulders for optimum comfort and ease of worker movement, reducing fatigue. In addition, a ratchet- adjusted neck pad ensures the worker's head is supported. The "Peel Offs Lens System" is a unique system of pre-folded tabs. This means workers can quickly tear off just one layered lens at a time. The helmet complies with ANSI Z87.1 for eye protec- tion and ANSI Z89.1 for head protection providing a high level of protection for the worker. www.allegrosafety.com. SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS Avon Protection has announced the launch of Deltair, a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) designed for the fi re service industry. As the industry's fi rst new innovation in the category in many years, Deltair offers superior air man- agement, single-power supply, clearer communications and optimal weight distri- bution for fi refi ghters and other fi rst responders, says the manufacturer. The ergonomic design of Deltair evenly distrib- utes the weight of the cylinder on a fi refi ghter's hips, similar to how a mountain climber carries a heavy backpack. Alleviating stress on the back and shoulders minimizes the risk of overexertion and improves a fi refi ghter's ability to maneuver. The product's patented user-friendly air management switch allows fi refi ghters to instantly shift from ambient air to cylinder air. This feature enables fi re- fi ghters to keep their mask on at all times and only use cylinder air when needed. Deltair also includes a quick disconnect option that enables fi refi ghters to replace their cylinder in seconds without remov- ing their gloves. Deltair underwent extensive testing against stringent military and fi re standards to yield the best SCBA and was also tested for ruggedness with a three-hour tumble test, says the manufacturer. The product withstands radiant heat temperatures of up to 260 C. www.avon-protection.com FR WINTER LINERS Ergodyne has expanded its N-Ferno Warming Prod- ucts to include the N-Ferno FR 3-Layer Extreme Series Winter Liners. The new arc-rated FR liners keep work- ers warm and protected from the elements, all while meeting the requirements of NFPA 70E. The new FR 3-Layer Extreme Series Winter Liners (models 6890 and 6892) use 3M FR Thinsulate as the insulating mid-layer, providing the ultimate in FR fabric pro- tection and extreme warmth, says the manufacturer. The shell is made of odacrylic cotton blend twill and the lining is modacrylic cotton blend fl eece. Ergodyne has also launched an N-Ferno FR 2-Layer Cold Series H&L Mouthpiece to complement the liners. The mouthpiece offers adjustable face protection that fi ts perfectly with any Ergodyne FR winter liner. All Ergodyne N-Ferno FR winter prod- ucts meet the requirements of ASTM F1506 and will not melt or drip. The liners include warming pack pockets, and hook and loop attachments for hard hat suspension. www.ergodyne.com. LED FLASHLIGHT Created with fi rst responder and industrial safety professionals in mind, Pelican Products has introduced the compact and lightweight 3315 LED fl ashlight. Requiring only three AA batteries (included), the runtime is nine hours and 45 min- utes with a light output of up to 113 lumens. The Pelican 3315 LED has a beam distance of 153 metres and a peak beam intensity of 5913 candelas. The shape of the light's body is engineered to fi t perfectly in the natural grasp of gloved hands and the ridges along the handle allow for a strict non-slip grip as fi rst responders and industrial safety specialists take on the toughest scenarios, says the manufacturer. Additionally, it features a lockable battery com- partment with a tethered door and a castle top so the user can see that the light is on if left standing upright. The 3315 LED comes in safety yellow or black and is made of virtually indestructible poly- mer material. A safety wrist lanyard is attached to avoid losing the fl ashlight in risky situations. It also features an IPX4 water-resistance rating, has a length of 6.14 inches and a lightweight feel at only 6.2 ounces (including batteries). www.pelican.com. TRANSPORTABLE FALL PROTECTION Diversifi ed Fall Protection has introduced Trans-Por- table Fall Protection (TFP) systems. Transportable fall protection is ideal for applications requiring a mobile solution due to location, lack of overhead structure for permanent system mounting, or the need for multiple location use throughout a facility. The TFP systems are designed to keep workers safe when working on heavy-duty transportation equipment, loaders, trucks, aircraft or oversized equipment. TFP has shorter fabrication and delivery lead times than permanently installed, custom-engineered systems. Trans-Portable Fall Protection systems are available as part of the Diversifi ed Fall Protection family of fall protection products. The systems feature solutions that support both active and passive fall protection equipment such as ladder access systems, work plat- forms, mobile access solutions and fi xed ladders. TFP systems will serve a variety of industries, including aviation, transportation, oil and gas, utilities, wind energy and construction. www.fallprotect.com. OHS PRODUCTS OF THE TRADE Avon Protection has announced the launch of Deltair, a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) designed for the fi re service industry. As the industry's fi rst new innovation in the category in many years, Deltair offers superior air man- agement, single-power supply,
