28 Canadian Occupational Safety www.cos-mag.com W hat one thing do effective health and safety professionals do that others do not? They go to where the knowledge is. Every year, they dedicate two days to gain career-expanding ideas, business revelations, networking opportunities, and self-growth advice at Canada's largest OHS event: Partners in Prevention Health and Safety Conference and Trade Show on April 29-30 at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ont. "Partners in Prevention offers participants, especially those who make it an annual habit, a powerful accumulation of small advantages," says Sherry Kirkpatrick, Workplace Safety and Prevention Services (WSPS) manager, events programming and delivery. "Success builds on itself through unexpected insights, problem-solving conversations with subject-matter experts you might never otherwise meet, exposure to little-known strategies, and new ways of thinking." Participants take this energy back to their workplaces, where they see things afresh, tackle old problems in new ways, boost their organization's health and safety performance, and slowly, but surely, change culture. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS How can you simply but effectively measure your return on your innovation strategies? What do workers need to know to prevent abuse, bullying and harassment? What's the most important ingredient for personal success? Three extraordinary keynote speakers deliver the goods: • Tom Wujec, an innovation strategist who works with Fortune 100 companies, on "The Return on Imagination: Innovation Breakthroughs Through Visual Thinking." • Sheldon Kennedy, former NHL hockey player and advocate for raising awareness of abuse issues, on "Why I Didn't Say Anything: The Psychological Impacts of Abuse." • Michael "Pinball" Clemons, CFL legend, Toronto Argonauts vice-chairman, and the role of heart, true spirit and belonging in success, on "Winning Against the Odds." Award-winning broadcast journalist Wendy Mesley facilitates the "View from the Top" panel of noted CEOs in an animated discussion on what differentiates CEOs who "get it" from those who don't, what scares CEOs about Bill C-45, and more. In addition to sessions and workshops offered by OHS pundits, policy makers, consultants, product and service providers, special features include a full-day supervisors' forum to help supervisors address their special challenges, a poster display of current OHS research projects, and a panel discussion by the winners of the Canada's Safest Employers award moderated by Canadian Occupational Safety editor Amanda Silliker. TRADE SHOW Canada's best product and service providers compete to attend what is becoming an international event, showcasing products and technology from around the world. Partners in Prevention 2014 also features three participative events: • Honeywell Working at Heights Pavilion, with hands-on demonstrations by industry experts, providing insights on how to prevent falls (a top Ministry of Labour priority). • Safety Factor Game Show, sponsored by Kimberly-Clark, to test your skills and knowledge, and compete for prizes. • Healthy Living and Cooking Centre, offering free health screening, demonstrations, and samples of our guest chef's healthy cuisine.
