TWENTY-TWENTY has been an
interesting year for all of us, to say the
least.
"Our consulting teams have been
primarily focused on providing COVID-19
support to ensure that workers can stay at
work or get back to work safely," says Glenn
Cullen, CEO and COO at Public Services
Health and Safety Association (PSHSA).
This year, PSHSA was able to pivot to
the needs and requirements of its funder
as well as its clients.
Despite difficult circumstances, this has
been a successful year for PSHSA. Notably,
the organization worked with the Ministry
of the Attorney General to reopen the court
system in Ontario. In addition, PSHSA
developed more than 70 COVID-19
guidance documents for employers and
workers in specific sectors in partnership
with the Ontario Ministry of Labour,
Training and Skills Development.
It has also been active hosting virtual
conferences, and it was quick to pivot to
remote training and service delivery,
demonstrating the flexibility and agility of
the organization. This year, PSHSA also
became the first in the province to offer
Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
Certification Part 1 training via eLearning.
What sets it apart is its commitment to
its mission and its talent, says Henrietta
Van hulle, vice president, Client Acquisition
and Outreach at PSHSA.
"We have a highly accomplished team of
health and safety professionals," says Van
hulle. "They have sector-specific knowledge
and expertise, so they are well versed in
delivering services to the public sector.
"We really know our client's business,
their unique environment and how they
operate," she says.
"As a health and safety association, we
understand the importance of our clients'
business continuity and the need to
maintain a healthy and safe workplace,"
says Cullen.
In spite of the hurdles placed by the
pandemic, 2021 will be another successful
year for PSHSA and its client-centric
model. Going in this direction, PSHSA will
continue to balance its person-to-person
delivery of consulting and training services
with its existing digital capabilities and
delivery as well as creating and developing
new ones.
"We're looking to accelerate change within
the system that we work in … and expand our
footprint," says Cullen.
"PSHSA is always looking for new
solutions to reduce hazards and risks that are
easy and cost effective for our clients to
implement," says Van hulle.
All this and more is what makes PSHSA
a truly winning organization.
"This is a fantastic award for us. It's
always reassuring and encouraging to be
recognized by your clients and partners
— especially during such a challenging year
… It validates what we already know to be
true, that our people are among the best at
what they do," says Cullen.
